Duneland Inn

PROJECT

A once-forlorn 1920s inn near Lake Michigan got a second life as a private summer house with seven guest rooms and a restaurant downstairs. The bones were charming but buried—so we brought the fairy-tale fantasy back with cozy color, old-fashioned pattern play, and just the right amount of whimsy.

INSPIRATION

Somewhere between a storybook cottage and a European country inn. We started with Russian floral kilims and layered in block prints, checks, and stripes, mixing wicker with antiques to make it feel collected, nostalgic, and full of personality.

THE CLIENT

The original plan was to revive the inn for guests. But once the design started taking shape, the owners kept saying “we want to stay here ourselves”—so it became their summer retreat, shared with friends and family.
